VB's Beauty Tip of the Week - D.I.Y. Sake Rose Toner

By special request, here is another natural, INEXPENSIVE way to attain a fresh and healthy complexion. This recipe for Sake Rose Toner was inspired by the luxury Japanese cult status skincare brand SKII, whose magical youth preserving key ingredient is sake. The story is that a Japanese monk visiting a sake brewery in Kobe noticed the brewery workers had true to age skin on their faces, but baby soft hands due to their constant contact with sake, and thus SKII was born.

After some experimentation of my own, I came up with this D.I.Y. version of a sake based toner costing a mere fraction of the SKII price, and that I call MKII. Sake, a natural astringent, tightens the pores, and rose petals scent and moisturize.

What to buy: bottle of Sake, a fresh Rose




To Use: Moisten a cotton ball and apply to the face and neck after cleansing. Follow with a moisturizer, (Rosemary infused Olive Oil Moisturizer, D.I.Y. Tip from March 18th, is a great choice). The Sake Rose Toner will keep for about 4 months refrigerated, 2 months otherwise.

VB's Beauty Tip of the Week: D.I.Y. Rosemary Infused Olive Oil Moisturizer

Here is a quick, easy, INEXPENSIVE way to make an all purpose, all natural mositurizer for your body, face and hair. This moisturizer rocks! It’s great for combination and dry skin. Olive oil moisturizes and is super absorbent, rosemary invigorates and protects (a natural antiseptic), and DHC, a cosmetics company based out of Japan, makes a very comparable product costing about five times as much! This is my absolute favorite moisturizer, I use it every day. No joke!!


What to buy: 1 bottle of Olive Oil, sprig of Rosemary
Instructions: Place the rosemary in the container you will be storing your mositurizer (best if sealable). I like a pump dispenser myself. Then fully cover the height of the rosemary with the olive oil, and voila, all finished!!


This will yield about two months worth of moisturizer if you are using it all over daily, and a little goes a long way. You only need a drop the size of silver dollar for your entire body, so use sparingly!!
